Exploring the region
Around Cahors, there is a wide choice of picturesque little villages to visit such as St Cirq Lapopie perched high on a cliff above the River Lot, or Pech Merle where prehistoric paintings can be admired on the rock face, an experience which on its own makes the trip worthwhile.
The paths of the Parc Naturel du Quercy are a perfect way to discover the beauty and diversity of the surrounding countryside either on foot, by bicycle or on a mountain bike.
If you enjoy boating, it is also possible to explore the region on the River Lot, either on an organised tour, by canoe or by hiring a private boat.
On the other side of Cahors, lies the Quercy Blanc, with villages such as Montcuq which has a 24 metre high mediaeval prison tower, Castelnau-Montratier famous for its Halles (a beautiful majestic building which was formerly the town’s corn market) or Lalbenque with its traditional truffle market, the only one in France (held from December to March). A little further away is the Abbey at Moissac, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Last but not least, you will be impressed by the magnificent Cahors vineyards which cloak the sides of the Lot valley.
The school is only too pleased to organise excursions designed to meet particular requirements: boat trips on the River Lot, hikes with picnics, canoeing expeditions, Cahors wine and food tastings, group restaurant outings…
The choice is yours!
